A little late December sunrise light for you to enjoy. .

It was such a beautiful, tranquil morning at Old Orchard Beach a day before Christmas Eve.  There were only two other people on the beach with my husband and I, and there was a real hush to the air, other than the sound of the waves lapping the sand over and over.  Also, for those of you not used to Maine latitude, sunrise this time of year is WELL after 7 am!  It was no hardship to get up for this, despite how early it looks.

The next shot was interesting to me, because I had never noticed ANY lighthouses while looking out from the beach at Old Orchard.  I put on my 300mm lens and took this very tiny picture of what turned out to be Wood Island Light, off the Biddeford Pool Road.  The clouds look so big and tall and the color so deep orange, but it is only because I am zoomed in so far that I am only looking at the small strip of orange you see in the picture above on the horizon.

This shot made me the happiest of the morning, because moments after the sun rose, it looked to me like a brilliant little egg, nesting in the soft, purply clouds on the horizon.  And the light was magnificent and golden!

I liked this shot, because the light looks almost Caribbean to me--the temperatures were NOT Caribbean though--it was a "balmy" 26 degrees farenheit.

Stonington's Sand Beach at Sunset

I had a great Thanksgiving holiday in Deer Isle with my mother and family this year--I hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgivings too!  I also got a chance to go out twice and shoot in some beautiful light conditions.  The first night I got there (I hate to say "night", as the sun set at 4:09pm!!!  Ugh!)
The light was magnificent well before sunset and became very interesting after sunset.

I will have more to come either this week or next, and I may even share a scarily humorous story about the second shoot, so stick around!

"SUPER" Supermoon November 2016!

Well, it was an exciting week for photographers!  I'm sure you've all heard about November 14th's Supermoon?  It was the last time we will see a full moon this big for another 70 years apparently.  I was thrilled to find that the weather was good both the night before and the night of the Supermoon.  The first night, I went to Spring Point Ledge Light, and the moon looked big and beautiful, but nothing like the night of the full moon:

The night of the full moon was a huge difference.  But it was a much more challenging shoot.  It was full dark, being over 30 minutes after sunset, so I had to juggle with settings to be able to expose for both the moon and the lighthouse.  At first, it worked well:

It was unbelievably large and beautiful!  There were tons of other people on Long Sands Beach with me, all along the beach--I am not sure how many, but possibly as much as 100?  It was such great energy.

Once the moon rose a bit more, however, the shoot became even trickier, possibly because the moon was so darned bright.  So I began taking one picture to expose for the lighthouse and island and one picture to expose for the moon, so it wouldn't just look like a big white disk hanging in the sky.

In Photoshop, I superimposed the two shots together and erased the white moon and let the moon from my "moon picture" shine through.  I think it looks pretty good!

I hope you all got to see this amazing vision for yourselves.  I'm so glad I drove all the way to York, Maine (an hour) to share this experience with so many other nice people.

Final Shots from my Autumnal Revels

I am sorry to see the last of these Autumnal shots.  Why can't Autumn give us beauty and color for the whole three months, like the other three seasons do?  (Well, maybe not Winter. . .)

STILL processing shots from my Autumnal trips!

I know it's been weeks of Autumnal images from Western Maine, but do you think you can stand a few more?  ;-)  It's just that driving around Western Maine, it's very hard not to trip over beautiful vistas every couple of miles (or even closer sometimes!)

Chasing Light in Bethel, Maine

So, I left for Western Maine on Monday morning dark and early at 4:30am in Portland.  And it was pitch dark AND cloudy for the next 2 hours!  But as I came into Bethel, the light was starting to get complex and the clouds were breaking up in places--with my second camera, I got a couple of shots of a rainstorm with sunrise light warring that I hope will be good.  But this was the first (and best) shot of the sunrise light as I left Bethel, to head on towards Weld, Maine.  I kept stopping by the road every mile or so to take pictures of this light, but this was the prettiest moment!

I hope you'll take a moment to share my blog with your friends and contacts as this is the only way I get word of my work out to the world.  I don't advertise.  You can see (and purchase) this in my Western Maine Gallery

First photos from this week's big Western Maine foliage trip!

I had a really great trip to Western Maine this week.  I really was hoping to do some night photography and actually capture the Milky Way, because I seem to always have the bad luck of being in places that would be good for capturing it on nights that the moon is shining brightly!  Well, the moon WAS shining brightly, but I tried it out anyhow!  I'm very happy with the results.

These two photos were taken on Route 156 in Wilton, Maine at Hill's (or maybe Hill) Pond.  They were taken at f/3.5, ISO 800, 30 second exposure, with my Pentax 16-85mm lens.

You can see these images full-sized on my  website Stay tuned for more to come!

Headed back to Western Maine for peak foliage this week!

These are some of my images taken in Western Maine last year at this time (near Bethel, ME).  On Monday morning, I'm heading up to Western Maine again, but to a different area (Weld, Rangeley etc) because it is PEAK FOLIAGE TIME!  Can't wait. . .  Wish me luck!

Time spent in Deer Isle, Maine

Deer Isle, Maine is definitely one of my muses as a photography subject.  It's hard to go anywhere on the island without seeing something beautiful, honestly.  If you just show up for the right light, you're almost guaranteed to find something beautiful to shoot!  Over the past few months, these are some of the photographs I've taken while visiting my mother there.

Please feel free to share my blog posts with your friends and contacts at will.  Also, take a moment to look at my website when you get a chance (below).  Cheers!

Fuller Farm Sunset and Stars, Scarborough, Maine

I went to Pine Point yesterday in Scarborough, ME, looking for some nifty sunset shots of the dories and rowboats at high tide.  But, hey--no boats here!  The water was REALLY choppy and the boats were really close to the shore and looked pretty lame.  So I changed my plan and thought I would try to get some salt marsh at sunset shots. . .  Hmm. .. .  No salt marsh in evidence here either.  What gives, Cindy?  Well, the upshot is that I took a wrong left turn at Albuquerque, so to speak, and ended up at Fuller Farm in Scarborough and I'm so glad I did!  The haystacks looked so beautiful and harvesty, and there were magnificent pink clouds overhead.  And then I stayed long enough to capture some stars, as you'll see in my third shot.  Sometimes, when life hands you lemons. . .
